Do your garden birds have a deluxe lifestyle?

Laverock Bird food Deluxe wild bird food 1

Once upon a Time there was a farmer who made and sold pigeon corns and decided to try his hand at making wild bird foods, yes that’s us and if you’ve read the ‘About Us’ section on our website then you will know all about how it started and that we began our mixing using a cement mixer ( a clean new one), and  how we’ve moved on from there  and what we do here on our farm and in the shop and wholesale section too.

Deluxe Wild Bird food was the first mix we made, we have refined and tweaked it over the years but its still a great food and fabulous value for money.

As people’s interest has increased and more and more seeds are introduced into bird foods to attract different birds to your garden or feeder this entry level bird food is still as popular as it was when we started selling it. It does contain wheat as well as many other seeds, but not as a filler, this wheat is grown here on our farm, is good quality and is part of this bird food as its primary use is to attract all types of birds to your garden.  This might mean that you get lots of sparrows or pigeons as well as blue tits and thrushes but hey, they’re all entitled to a feed aren’t they, its not just for the pretty ones is it?

Lots of customers use this food as a basic one then move on to the more specialist foods that we do to attract the smaller birds, or supplement foods with our straight feeds such as Niger seed, black sunflowers or sunflower hearts, but our Deluxe wild Bird Food is well loved by people who want to feed pigeons or have pheasants who visit their gardens so they can spread this feed over the grass for the ground feeding birds that we still make it in very great quantities.  Chris uses this wild bird food when he goes on his twice weekly trips around the farm with the dogs in the pickup to feed the hedgerow birds which have had a very wet winter but still seem to be thriving if their birdsong as we pass by anything to go by. We also have customers who use this type of food to treat their hens as they love Black sunflowers apparently!

I’ve just checked the recipe for making Deluxe Wild Bird Food (Chris is like a Chef, except his hands aren’t quite as clean at work!), and as well as wheat it contains, Black Sunflowers, Cut Maize, Red Dari, White Millet, Red Millet and Cut Peas so there’s a great selection for your garden birds to start them off!

Our other mixes have many and varied other ingredients and I will be doing a blog post about each type of wild bird food that we make, and the birds that they (hopefully) will attract to your garden or feeder and hopefully we will all live happily ever after!
