Farmsolation Week 3
I’m not sure if we are adapting to this ‘staying at home’, or its just become more habit forming. Things seem to have slowed up from the initial panic in our shop and the same on the wholesale side. People are back with their regular orders - although we are seeing a lot of new faces in the shop, plus lots of our older customers are sending other family members or kind neighbours to collect their chicken foods, dog foods etc. I’m so impressed with our customers who are happy to respect the social distancing regulations we have had to put into place in the shop. We can still put items into your cars, but the One-in-One-out rule has been implemented for the safety of our customers and staff too, so thank you all for your patience and humour, too.
Its so lovely to know that so many are still feeding the birds and getting time to enjoy watching them. We had a lovely long tailed tit at our bird table yesterday, it was very timid, but it returned at least three times that I saw at least. We’ve also had the usual suspects of the bossy bullfinches, sparrows, robins, collared doves and the lovely little blue tits enjoying our hospitality in the last few days.
Chris and George are working extra long hours trying to plant our Spring crops and resowing the washed out and rotted off crops that were sown last Autumn. The dust is flying which is making an amazing change from all the mud-spattered machinery that was in the fields at the end of last year. Chris is hoping to get the crops sown and catch up on most of the land work before it rains again, so fingers crossed for that. We even had time to plant some potatoes in our back garden last night, we don’t usually get much time for gardening but it seems a bit more necessary this year with all of the issues around food, especially home produced food, and you have to agree, nothing tastes better than home grown.
Our web orders are increasing as customers are finding us from far and wide which is amazing, plus we have lots of local orders from those who are self-isolating too. We have been enjoying doing these deliveries and its lovely to get a wave or a thumbs up from the people when we phone them to say their order is on the step! If you’re not near our shop or are self-isolating nearby why not place your order and we can get these couriered to your door. We’re happy to send wild bird foods, pigeon corns, chicken foods or some caged bird foods too. We even waved a delivery off to the Kyle of Lochalsh earlier this week, although extra delivery costs did apply to this order.
