Farmsolation Week 2

chris

I think it has been the most bizarre week ever - the shop has been unbelievably busy with people stocking up on dog and chicken foods mainly, but also pigeon and wild bird foods. We have had some laughs among the stressful days, people’s humour has shone through rather than sadness or anger but in these uncertain times its so lovely to see the best of people rather than the worst that has been seen in supermarket queues and fighting over loaves of bread and toilet roll.

It is so true that our lives have been turned upside down and will remain so for several weeks or months, especially if the social distancing measures put in place by the Government aren’t adhered to and people continue to crowd to our lovely beaches and countryside. I did mention how sad it is that the coronavirus has invaded our daily lives when the sun has finally decided to shine and the long wet Winter is almost over ( isolation would have been much more preferable in the dark wet Winter days when there was little else I would’ve wanted to do), but sadly the Spring of 2020 is more memorable for things other than the weather.

For my Mother’s Day treat we all went for a walk to our newly planted woodland with the dogs, for a bit of fresh air and to see how our trees are getting on after the Winter. We have visited, but it seemed a bit more special today as a family.  Walter decided to chase a ‘congregation' of golden plovers and yes, I did have to look that group name up! He had a great time, and as they lifted and flew around it was a magical sight. We also had the joy of a skylark flying overhead, singing its little heart out to just us. Its so terrible that it takes such a crisis like we are undergoing as a country now, to appreciate the small things like the birds singing or the grass beginning to grow, and the baby lambs being born.  Isn’t nature amazing?

I’m in awe at the generosity and kindness of people and their sheer determination to look after the birds and wildlife. We have had so many people in buying larger bags, or two bags instead of one, just to make sure the birds will be fed. In return though the birds will provide a lovely source of entertainment for those who are isolating so in that respect we are all looking after each other.

Chris has started putting fertilizer on the fields and will soon be sowing Spring crops and re-sowing fields that were decimated by flooding and constant rain over what seemed like the longest and wettest Winter I have ever known. Let’s hope we can sow seeds and keep Britain farming, our wheat and cereal crops will all be needed.

Our website is still trading, but please bear with us as I’m not having much time to update  items as they sell out before more stock can be made, but we are hoping that the supply chain will catch up to enable us to be fully stocked with ingredients to make most of our products. Our courier is still working and as we don’t have contact it should be ok, we put the boxes in a safe place for him to collect them, and then sends me a photo receipt - with this in mind, hopefully we can keep up with our courier service too for those people who can’t make it to our shop for obvious reasons, until we are told otherwise. If anything did happen, I would be happy to refund so please don’t hesitate to order or get in touch.

Take care everyone, stay safe and please maintain your social distancing.
