Mud
Anyone else sick of Mud?
Every dog walk becomes a trudge through mud, wellie wearing for me then watching the mud splash over the dogs as they walk ahead of me, then getting splashed myself as they both run towards me at top speed.
This Winter has seemed never ending, the dark days trying to fit in all of the outdoor jobs before it gets too dark to see, then taking off wellies and waterproofs to get warm and dry before doing it all over again.
Our dogs do have a lot of energy and require quite a lot of exercise (much more than me) but have been really good this Winter as some of our routes were just not passable of late due to excess mud and puddles, Frank hates puddles and visibly winces as Walter ploughs on through and splashes him, and me, mercilessly. They then come back into the house and barely get dry before its time to do it all again. The old towels that we only use for the dogs seem to be always either getting washed or dried and the covers on the dog sofa seem to be covered in muddy footprints or producing clouds of dust everywhere!
Spring is here now thankfully, the clocks went forward yesterday, and it was heralded by a seriously bad deluge of sleet and snow yesterday afternoon, followed by a thick frost this morning, leaving a fresh bout of mud and puddles for our walk today, although the sun is now out, and it seems to be getting warmer. Let’s hope that this is the beginning of a drier and sunnier period.
The fields are drying out too so it’ll soon be Spring corn sowing time and pumpkin planting time too, but more of that at a later date.
On a brighter note the birds in our garden seem to be very busy pairing up and nest building. Fingers crossed our resident woodpecker will be staying in or nearby, both the male and the female have been at the feeders most days and if we are outside, we can hear the tap tap tapping on the trees at the bottom of the garden. Life seems to be springing up all around but please No More MUD!
