Farmsolation Week 5

Field Easter

No, he’s not praying, but multi-tasking.  We were off on our walk on Easter Sunday, another lovely day during these strangest of times, and Chris decided he needed to check the newly sown crops to see if they had germinated.  I hate to say it, but we could do with a good shower of rain to set them off. This time when it rains, I hope it remembers when to stop, unlike last Autumn/Winter when we seemed to have rain every day from September.  The dogs follow Chris everywhere and only seem to obey me when he’s not around, other than that I’m relegated – they both adore him which I think the picture shows, plus the fact that mobile phones can find you anywhere…. There is no escape!

We walked miles and saw lots of wildlife and birdlife too, the hedges are in bloom and nature seems to be carrying on regardless, although it really seems to be excelling itself this Spring. The blossom is spectacular on some trees, the blue sky appears a bit bluer without the aeroplanes whizzing across the sky at regular intervals, plus the birdsong is that bit clearer without the traffic noise that we always have in the background.

Bird Food production resumed after the long holiday weekend and at last our ingredient seeds seem to be in better supply, although there are a few exceptions which is understandable at this present time.  Chris, George and Darren have been working hard to make lots of our mixes to keep the shop, website and customers fully stocked with great mixes and seeds available to keep those birds fed. We also need a big shout out to the haulage companies who have delivered our supplies as quickly as they could & the drivers who have been so good natured and totally professional when they were on our premises.

We have been doing some deliveries and have had a great response from customers who are isolating but are really enjoying watching the birds in their garden, which might be the first time they have been able to do this, or had so much time on their hands to enjoy their garden.   They’re in great company too, as I read an article about Prime Minister Boris Johnson recuperating at Chequers whilst taking up a spot of birdwatching, I was wondering if he needed any wild bird food as we would happily courier some down to him, for the usual fee of course!
