Its that time of year again

ETHH0190

August is well through and we will be starting to harvest soon in what has been the most unusual year for everyone in the country, if not the World.  The weather has been challenging to say the least and our crops will be reflecting that, our oilseed rape crop is almost non existent after the 14 week drought during the growing season which has also contributed to the very short straw on the wheat and barley crops.  On the plus side our newest crop of pumpkins seems to be growing very well as they were planted later, and their growing season is a later one, so the rain arrived in good time to save them. We’re really looking forward to harvesting them in late October ready for all your Halloween pumpkins so please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

The birdlife has had an amazing year, I have never seen so many sparrows for a very long time. The lockdown has had a very positive effect on birdlife and wildlife too. I think that the slower pace of life enforced on us has made so many more people enjoy and look at what’s around them and take a positive interest in supporting it. Certainly, we have seen a lot of newer customers in our shop who want to enjoy the birds from their new home office window or are enjoying more home time in their gardens or are enjoying being first time chicken owners too

Wildlife has had a great boost in our local area lately, we support the Cramlington and District Red Squirrel Group by donating food to them and we also have a collecting tin in our shop too , look out for it next time you’re in the shop as donations are always welcome. The squirrel group has managed to install a squirrel bridge, like a rope ladder, across a busy local road in East Cramlington so the squirrels can safely get across the road to the local nature reserve and it has been used already so that will help the local population and hopefully prevent fatalities in this endangered species we are all trying to support so thank you everyone who has contributed, its already working and helping. We had a red squirrel visit our garden recently and Chris managed to capture an amazing photo of him/her which is the caption for this blog so this is living proof that they are alive and thriving in Northumberland with a little help from us all.

We would like to thank you all for your support of our shop and business during what has been the most challenging of years, you have visited our shop, recommended us to friends and neighbours and ordered our bird foods on line if you were shielding or out of the area. We really appreciate this and hope that you will all continue to support us in the future and make time to enjoy the birdlife and wildlife too as life slowly returns to some form of normality. Wish us luck for our harvesting  and I will update you all soon but don't worry, you can still order or visit our shop as orders will be continuing as normal and our shop opening hours remain the same.
