Hay! Check this out

IMG 2256 2

I’ve been trying to find somewhere cool for the last couple of days as the heat has been rather enjoyable, but at times a little too much if you’re trying to work! Its fine if you are on the beach or relaxing but not so much fun in our dusty farmyard.  The dogs have been walked early morning and, in the evening, other than that they have been flopped out in the cool passageway trying to enjoy some cool breeze through the back door.

Tonight, we went in the pickup to inspect the new hay crop, yes grass is considered a crop, which the dogs really enjoyed, trying (and failing) to cock their legs on each and every bale in the field! They will be kept away from the pumpkins when they’re ready for picking I can assure you all! Amazingly this year our hay crop was cut and turned, then turned again without a single drop of rain to spoil it so there’s a lovely smell and some amazing hay to feed the animals during the winter months (note to self, organise those donkeys asap).

The pollen count has been high lately as all of you hay fever sufferers will testify, but our resident bees have had a field day on all of the clover and flowers from the wildflower meadows we have planted as well as the flowers, especially the abundant honeysuckle in our front garden. The windows have been open lately and the buzzing of bees has been incessant, but not overtaking the amazing early morning chorus from the birds who have been nesting in the trees around the garden and farmyard. I think since the traffic and planes were significantly reduced the noise from nature has been much more noticeable, and more enjoyable too.

We’ve still been busy with our wild bird foods and pigeon corns, plus hen corns too but we have also been roped in to help with daughter Robyn’s new business venture too which was officially launched last week. She has started making amazing soaps here on our farm using our own rapeseed oil and other British produce where possible. They smell amazing, are chemical free, vegan and come in an array of colours. Many of you have ordered via her website and the support has been wonderful so thank you all for that. The soaps can be posted out in a specially designed box straight through your letterbox with four soaps inside for only £12 with Free postage, or £4 each.  She even has a plain soap with no colours or scents for those people who may have skin issues and not be able to use certain scents on their skin. If you’d like to take a look at her funky named soaps the link is below, my personal favourite is her ‘Life’s a Beach’, it may become your favourite too.
