Sadly, there’s not a lot of good news around at the moment and these are certainly worrying times for us all. Sky News is full of scary updates from all over the world as we are caught up in the Coronavirus pandemic with life as we know it being very restricted and many more changes ahead.
Working from home or being in isolation from family and friends is challenging and can be very different for the whole family. We have two daughters who usually live away from home because of work they are both at home here on the farm now, along with Chris and me plus George, our son. Add to the mix our two dogs and cats and that’s a lot of mouths to feed, extra toilet rolls and opportunities for arguments over the smallest things which I’m sure most of you will be familiar with – the pressure of COVID-19 won’t get to us, though!
Robyn , our youngest, was busy on her laptop in the farm kitchen and announced how nice it was to be back at home with all of her familiar things around her whilst working and organising what she normally does in an office (don’t ask me what ha ha). Especially being able to watch the birds on the bird table outside the kitchen window, since this is something she cannot do at all at work! They are so familiar to me that I almost take them for granted while they feed and chatter away at the table, but she noticed them straight away. Its so nice to think that in these unprecedented times some life continues regardless. The bullfinches and blue tits, along with doves and many sparrows are breeding and feeding and just carrying on with their unchanged lives.
If you’re working from home, I can highly recommend installing a bird feeder outside a window where you can see them and enjoy their activity. Its most relaxing and the birds really benefit too, so please consider this and maybe it could be the start of a new hobby for you and your family. My mum is over 80, so is being isolated at her home, and has been giving me updates daily on the birds that visit her bird feeder that she previously hadn’t had time to enjoy watching!
We can courier wild bird foods to most parts of the country (while our couriers will still collect and deliver) so you won’t even need to visit our shop, simply order via our website and we will courier to you some of our finest wild bird foods. All you have to do is stay in for the courier , which under the current regulations means that you will be in, they can leave it on your step and then your new hobby can commence and you or your isolated family can enjoy watching the birds from the safety of your home. Our shop is also still open and we’re happy to put your bags in your car so contact can be kept to a minimum.
We all need a laugh in dark times, so here’s one I found earlier:
A bloke on a tractor has just driven past me shouting “The end of the world is nigh!”
I think it was Farmer Geddon ……….. sorry but you have to admit it is funny
